Welcome
Strathdearn is the name given to the rural area comprising Moy, Dalarossie and Tomatin,
lying on both sides of the A9 approximately 15 miles south of Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland. (see Map)
Through its heart runs the river Findhorn and to the south is the Slochd Summit.
The area consists of several large estates, the hamlets of Moy and Dalarossie with ancient churches,
and the main village of Tomatin, known the world over because of its distillery which produces a
fine malt whisky. There is hill farming, salmon fishing and some forestry and more recently windfarms are
springing up upon the surrounding hills. At Tomatin, there is also a unique corrugated iron mission church,
an inn and a shop as well as a new PFI primary school, and a fine village hall which was graced by a visit
from the late Queen Mother. Though seemingly quiet and peaceful Strathdearn has much to offer; a strong and
growing community, it is much loved by locals and visitors alike as can be judged by those
who have come and stayed and gladly now call it home.
The area provides much interest for walkers and cyclists, there is a wide variety of plant and wildlife,
and for those with an interest in clan history, or of the times of the Jacobites the hills and homes of
this area can tell a story or two.
The annual Moy Fair brings people from miles around to celebrate the life and pursuits of the countryside
